Half Day Car Hire in Accra with a Professional Driver

The full day rate makes sense when you are out from morning until evening. Plenty of days are not like that. You need to get to Makola, then to a bank, then back to where you are staying, and by two in the afternoon you are done. Paying for ten hours to use five is how visitors end up feeling like Accra is more expensive than it is.

Half day is five hours with the car and driver, for $60 in the BYD or $75 in the Deepal S7 Executive.

What Five Hours Actually Buys in Accra

More than you would think, and less than you would hope, depending entirely on the time of day. Between roughly 9:30am and 3pm the city moves. In that window five hours covers a genuine list: two or three stops across Osu, Cantonments and Airport Residential, with real time at each one.

Start at 7am and the first hour goes to traffic. Start at 4pm and you will spend a good part of your window sitting on the Spintex Road or the Tetteh Quarshie approach. This is worth planning around, and our drivers will tell you honestly which order to do your stops in to avoid the worst of it.

Common Half Day Uses

Airport arrival plus a settling in run is a frequent one: collect from Kotoka, stop at a supermarket and a SIM card point, then to the accommodation, with the driver waiting through each stop.

Business visitors use it for a morning block of meetings. Diaspora visitors use it for family visits across the city, where you need someone waiting outside rather than trying to find a ride again after each stop. And a lot of people use it for a market morning, because coming out of Makola with bags and trying to find transport is exactly the situation the half day is designed to remove.

Where the Line Sits Between Half and Full Day

If your day includes anywhere outside Accra, take the full day or a tour rate. Aburi, Shai Hills and Kokrobite are all beyond what five hours comfortably covers once you account for the return leg.

Within Accra, if you have more than four stops or you need the car past mid afternoon, the full day at $120 usually works out better than a half day plus extra hours.

If You Run Over

Extra hours are $12 per hour on the BYD and $14 on the Deepal, added to the booking rather than negotiated at the roadside. If you know in advance that five hours will be tight, add the hours when you book and the driver plans the day around the longer window.
